PERSONALITY

Iain seems like a friendly enough young man. He stiffens under close contact when he is unfamiliar with the people. The young man takes a great deal of warming up in situations he's not used to and may even seem cold at times. He's a good soul and looks after his friends before himself. Maybe not before his family, but certainly before himself. His main issues is that he's usually rather condescending. This isn't good considering his current job.

APPEARANCE

Iain is tall enough by his standards. His broad shoulders give him a larger appearance at times. He strikes a stunning figure in uniforms and suits, like his body was made for them. The man still has the body of a Quiddiitch player luckily, which certainly helps out. Iain works to keep himself at top shape, regardless of his addiction to coffee. Several scars mar the man's body, mostly about his torso with the worst running up his neck and chin. An old burn mark from his time working at the school.

HISTORY

FAMILY HISTORY
Murdoch and Bridget were a mix-matched pair from the start. They didn't hate each other, but from early on they rubbed each other the wrong way. She was frivolous and liked things that were new and fashionable. He liked things that were worn and used. Something neither ended up really getting over about the other. Murdoch was young and just starting on the police force and Bridget was a little older and ready to settle down. It was coincidense that she working part time in the store that was held up just as Murdoch was picking up the newest novel from his favourite fantasy writer while off duty. Fate maybe that he caught the man and saved her from being potentially fired (the store was her grandfather's, it was unlikely she'd be fired). Adrenaline that made her say yes when he asked her out several weeks later after visiting every couple of days to make sure she was alright. Then her biological clock that made her say yes again to a much bigger question.

Several years later it was love, ironically, that led her to push for a divorce. Murdoch wasn't angry, though of course he wasn't happy. Their marriage lasted several years, until he was nicely established within the small force, she was on her way to owning her own new bookstore, and their son had started being involved in strange unexplainable events. Whenever Bridget's back was turned, he'd some how turned up with his little hands on whatever book or magasine or knitting even that she was involving herself in instead of paying attention to the child. Little events such as these were part of why she didn't mind when Murdoch insisted he keep the young boy. It wasn't that she didn't love her child, but it would be difficult for her making a change while her officially ex-husband was nicely established. Besides, the boy was about to start primary school anyway so the young man and old man would be fine together she decided.

Bridget has a new family, with a young son and a husband who she adores. She and Murdoch still speak, usually in reference to Iain as they still have little else in common. Iain goes between this family and his father easily enough and is on fine terms with the whole lot though he is sometimes stiff with the new husband.

During Voldemort's second reign of terror, Iain found himself getting to know people he hadn't before, including single mother Alicia Spinnet. It's been suggested that her first child is his from a drunken encounter at a Quidditch party long before then, but that's never been confirmed. Her second child however is his and he visits them often, even babysits when he can offer it.
PERSONAL HISTORY
Iain discovered he was magical very young, before primary school even. Of course, he didn't know what that meant and neither did his parents. It wasn't until he was a bit older that it was officially acknowledged by the Ministry of Magic. A young ministry worker came one day when Iain was eight and explained things properly to his parents after the Ministry got wind of a boy that had somehow made a plant grow feet and try to escape the school it resided in. His mother was skeptical, but his father thought the bloke seemed honest enough and asked many questions. The letter that came a couple years later was no great shock to Iain or his father, though it did officially dashed his mother's dreams of sending him somewhere promenient and having a famous son. She got over this quickly to support her boy.

At Hogwarts, Iain kept to himself and his Housemates until he joined the Quidditch team with friend Roger Davies. The game provided him with a whole new level of socialization and competetion. Joy of the game brought out another level of charm from the boy as he realised far more ways people could like him outside of wanting to borrow homework. He had a few girlfriends here and there and was signed up for the Tri-Wizard tournament for similar reasons. The death of Cedric Diggory sobered up Iain quickly. The world was not about Quidditch and friends. He still played and he pulled his friends closer if anything, but he could feel the change in the air.

His final year was strange, with his friend Cho dating Potter, Roger dating some other girl, and Iain himself not alone as much as trying to decide how to process things. He was still himself, but quiet like he'd been his first year or so. The boy had originally been set to go into Professional Quidditch, but due to the competition of the sport, Flitwick had suggested magical law enforcement because of the boy's ideas of fairness and his quick thinking. Iain decided to put Quidditch on the shelf after Hogwarts and did just that. He went into Auror training. It was during the time he spent in London that he first met his Muggle girlfriend, Aileen. She's a sweet secretary he met in a pub late one evening. Her friend had gone off with some bloke and Iain didn't think she should be going about on her own, so he walked her to her flat. They talked for hours, both finding each other to be reserved and kind people. They've been dating ever since, with Iain dancing around his wizarding blood by saying he's a Muggle university student. A little known school with strict rules about women on campus.

After Dumbledore's death, the air in the Ministry changed. When Scrimergour was murdered, it became dark. Iain kept his head down and listened for the other Aurors that he knew he could trust. Eventually, Muggleborns were being called in for trial. Iain's name came up, but he requested it to be put off so he could finish working on a particularly nasty case. His boss agreed. In September, he finally had to go in or be laid off. As a Ravenclaw, he felt he could make a good argument and have a better chance this way. He was one of the next people up the the chaos started. Runcorn, a nasty customer came around with Mafalda Hopkirk and told everyone to leave. So Iain did. He got out of the Ministry building as quickly as he could. He kept an eye secretly out on his father and kept in touch with the people he knew he could trust, like Cho. In late October, he traveled back to London and joined up with the Order thanks to Cho and the school for Muggleborns. He taught there until everything cleared up. Iain returned to the Ministry after Voldemort was gone, taking up a full Auror position.

After working with students so long, Iain was kept to it, holding an Auror position at the school replacing Hogwarts for two full years. When magic became known to Muggles, he was brought back in to help with Muggle human relations, though his nasty burn from an incident at the school was little help and he was sent off on missions often. He immediately took up a position supporting good relations, but he had little interest in the spotlight so he just kept up his job. Once things really started falling through, he moved to Hawkshead before the majority of wizards, taking up a spot in their local police department.
